CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Nicole Grote (Ellicott City, Md.), a freshman attack on the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team, was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Grote recorded career highs in both assists (four) and points (seven) – both of which were team highs – to lead UNH to a 16-0 victory against Iona College on March 27. She also tallied three goals, one ground ball, one caused turnover and a personal best of two draw controls.
Grote opened the scoring on an unassisted goal with 2:55 elapsed from the game. She then set up the third goal at 16:02, scored the sixth goal (at 5:36) and assisted on the seventh (4:07) to record four points on eight of UNH's first half goals.
In eight games, Grote has recorded seven goals and six assists for 13 points. She ranks third on the team in assists as well as fifth in both goals and points. Grote recorded her first career point with a goal at Longwood College (March 16) and finished that game with a career-high four goals. She tallied an assist each of the next two games against Columbia University (March 20) and University at Albany (March 24) and extended her point-scoring streak to four games with the seven-point effort vs. Iona.
Grote is the second Wildcat to receive this award in 2013. Laura McHoul (Westwood, Mass.) was the Rookie of the Week honoree Feb. 18.
UNH (3-6 overall, 0-1 America East), which has won three of its last four games, returns to action April 3 at home against the University of Vermont. Game time at Cowell Stadium is 3 p.m.
