DURHAM, N.H. – Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario), a rising senior on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, has been named one of the 25 selected athletes for the Junior Women's National Team. The announcement was made June 6 by Field Hockey Canada.
Poulakis is one of four forwards on the Canada's 25-player roster. She was a star player on Team Canada at the 2024 Junior Pan America Championships. She has also been a member of the Team Canada Indoor National Program and played at the Indoor Pan Ams in 2021.
Most recently, Poulakis was an alternate for the Field Hockey Canada Women's National Team that competed at the 2025 FIH Nations Cup in Chile from February-March.
Poulakis, who started all 20 games for the Wildcats as a junior captain in 2024, ranked third on the team in goals (11) and fourth in points (24), as well as tied for the lead in game-winning goals (three). On the America East conference leaderboard, she tied for sixth in goals per game (0.55) and tied for ninth in points per game (1.20); her three game-winning goals tied for fourth.
Poulakis recorded a point in 11 of 20 games with a goal in 10, including two goals in the America East semifinal victory. She scored a goal three consecutive games Oct. 6-18 and had a goal in back-to-back games two other times. She also had a three-game point streak Sept. 22-29.
In five games against nationally-ranked teams, Poulakis tallied two goals and an assist for five points. Also of note, she recorded four goals and an assist for nine points in six conference games.
Poulakis was named to the NFHCA Northeast Region Second Team, as well as both America East All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team, for the second consecutive year in 2024.
UNH finished the season with a 10-10 record as the Wildcats were runner-up in both the America East regular-season standings and conference tournament. Poulakis helped the 'Cats rank No. 6 in the nation in goals per game (3.05).
The 2025 Field Hockey Canada Junior Women's National Team selections follow a series of spring training camps. Poulakis and the other selected athletes will centralize in Vancouver this July in preparation for the international season. From this group of 25, final rosters will be named for upcoming tournaments, including the Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay and the Junior World Cup.
Following the Junior Pan Am Games, the teams will regroup in November to centralize and prepare for the Junior World Cup in Chile.
