Three 'Cats Earn Phil Steele All-America Accolades

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore kicker Nick Reed (Harrison, N.Y.) of the 22nd-ranked University of New Hampshire football team was named to the Phil Steele All-America First Team on Monday. Redshirt freshmen Trevor Barry (Elma, N.Y.) and D.J. Johnson (Wilbraham, Mass.) were both selected to the Phil Steele Freshman All-America Second Team.
It is the fourth All-America recognition of the season for Reed, who was also named to the Stats Perform All-America First Team, Associated Press FCS All-America First Team, and FCS Football Central All-America Third Team.
The UNH football team, led by first-year head coach Sean Goldrich, will play six home games in 2026 with a Sept. 12 home opener vs. Stonehill College and Homecoming is Oct. 3 vs. Elon University.
Season tickets for the 2026 UNH football season are on sale now and start as low as $132 per season – that is an average of $22 per game. Renewals are open for current season ticket members.
Ticket options for groups of 20 or more are available by completing an online interest form. Single-game tickets and parking will go on sale Monday, June 1, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at www.unhwildcats.com/buytickets.

Reed ranks No. 1 in the nation in field goals per game (1.92) as well as 14th in both total points scored (105) and in scoring (8.1 points/game). He was named to the 2025 CAA Football First Team and was a three-time CAA Special Teams Player of the Week during the regular season. He also earned an FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week award.
Reed made 25 of 32 field goal attempts and 30 of 31 PAT kicks. The 25 field goals are a UNH single-season record and he also broke the program record for longest field goal with a 55-yarder Nov. 22 against the University of Maine.
He finished 20-for-24 on field goal attempts of 30+ yards with a breakdown of 11 of 12 from 30-39, 3 of 4 from 40-49 and 6 of 8 from 50+.
In addition to the school-record 55-yard field goal, Reed connected from 50 yards, 52 yards twice and 53 yards.
Reed kicked the game-winning 40-yard field goal vs. Holy Cross on the final play of the game to lift UNH to a 19-16 victory in UNH's home opener on Sept. 6. He made all four field goal attempts – he also split the uprights from 33, 30 and 50 yards – to score 13 of the team's 19 points.
Reed matched his career high of 13 points in a game with a perfect kicking day – he made all four field goal attempts and only PAT attempt – to help New Hampshire defeat the University of Maine, 33-27, to retain the Brice-Cowell Musket. His field goals of 29 and 21 yards helped stake the 'Cats to a 13-0 lead. He broke the school record with a 55-yard FG at 1:47 of the second quarter and added a 33-yarder on the last play of the half to send UNH into the locker room with a 27-7 lead.
In addition to placekicking, Reed also kicked off and had 30 touchbacks on 69 kickoffs with an opponent average starting position at the 25-yard line.
Reed was named one of 10 finalists for the 2025 Fred Mitchell Award, which recognizes kickers for outstanding performance on the field – distance, accuracy and clutch kicks – and meaningful community service.
Barry started all 13 games at linebacker and led UNH with 78 total tackles as he had a team-high 37 assisted tackles and ranked second with 41 solo tackles. He made a career-high 10 tackles, including a personal best of seven solo stops, in the season opener at N.C. Central University and also had 10 tackles at nationally-ranked University of Rhode Island.
His other season highlights included nine tackles in Game 2 vs. College of the Holy Cross and eight tackles at FBS school Ball State University in Game 3. Barry was UNH's leading tackler each of those three games and five times overall in the 2025 season.
Johnson recorded 27 solo tackles and 15 assisted tackles for a total of 42, which ranked fifth on the team, in 13 games (five starts). The defensive end ranked third in sacks (2.5) and fourth in tackles for loss (4.5). Johnson was also credited with a forced fumble, blocked kick, two pass breakups and a pair of quarterback hurries.
Johnson recorded a career high of five tackles in four games – back-to-back vs. Holy Cross and Ball State and also back-to-back at URI and at Campbell University. He also blocked a punt at Ball State and forced a fumble at Campbell.
