CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore kicker Nick Reed (Harrison, N.Y.) and junior fullback Peyton Strickland (Goffstown, N.H.) of the 22nd-ranked University of New Hampshire football team have been selected to the 2025 New England Football Writers Association All-New England Team.
The two will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Sheraton Framingham (Mass.) Hotel and Conference Center.
Reed ranks No. 1 in the nation in field goals per game (1.92) as well as 10th in total points scored (105) and 15th in scoring (8.1 points/game). He was named to the CAA Football First Team, was a three-time CAA Special Teams Player of the Week during the regular season and earned an FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week award (Sept. 8). He was also named a semifinalist for the 2025 Fred Mitchell Award and that recipient will be named later this month.
Reed made 25 of 32 field goal attempts and 30 of 31 PAT kicks. The 25 field goals are a UNH single-season record and he also broke the program record for longest field goal with a 55-yarder in the Nov. 22 win against the University of Maine.
Other highlights from Reed's year were connecting on kicks from 50 yards twice (Sept. 6 and Oct. 18), 52 yards twice (Sept. 13 and 20) and 53 yards (Nov. 8). He recorded a personal best of 13 points in the victory at No. 6 Monmouth (Nov. 8) and in the Maine win (Nov. 25).
He was 20-for-24 on field goal attempts of 30+ yards with a breakdown of 11 of 12 from 30-39, 3 of 4 from 40-49 and 6 of 8 from 50+.
In addition to placekicking, Reed also kicked off and had 30 touchbacks on 69 kickoffs.
Strickland was named to the CAA Football First Team as a fullback/halfback. He had 25 catches for 242 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games to establish single-season bests in all three stats. He finished the season tied for second on the team in receiving TDs and the 25 catches were fifth.
He began the season with a 65-yard touchdown catch in the season-opening win at N.C. Central. Those 65 yards marked a career high. He finished with a career high of three catches in five games – Sept. 20 at Dartmouth, Oct. 11 at Rhode Island, Oct. 25 vs. William & Mary, Nov. 15 at Bryant and in the playoff game at South Dakota State on Nov. 29. In the Bryant victory, Strickland brought in a personal-best two touchdowns.
UNH ended the season with an 8-5 record and tied for third in CAA Football at 6-2. The Wildcats advanced to the FCS national playoffs for the second consecutive year and were defeated by 14th-seeded South Dakota State University.
