RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore defensive end Jordan Mcallister (South Orange, N.J.) of the University of New Hampshire football team was named the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
In UNH's 34-13 win at sixth-ranked Monmouth University on Nov. 8, Mcallister led the Wildcats' stifling defense with a career-high 3.5 sacks that included three forced fumbles, two of which recovered by a teammate. Mcallister finished the game with five tackles.
UNH returns to action Nov. 15 (12pm) at Bryant University. The Wildcats' next home game is the regular-season finale Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle against the University of Maine on Nov. 22 (1pm). CLICK HERE to buy tickets online or e-mail unh.tickets@unh.edu or call (603) 862-4000.
Two plays after UNH took a 20-13 lead, Mcallister forced a fumble on a sack and teammate Tim Bonagura (Fremont, N.H.) fell on the loose ball; three plays later, the Wildcats took advantage of the short field – the drive started on the MU 37 – to extend the advantage to 27-13 at 7:10 of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, with 11:00 on the clock and Monmouth at the UNH 23, Mcallister forced strip-sack that forced the Hawks into 3rd-and-19.
With 3:30 remaining in the game, Mcallister recorded another strip-sack turnover at the MU 35 to secure the win.
Mcallister and the Wildcats shut out the Hawks out in the second half to hold their high-scoring offense 29 points below their season average of 42 points per game. UNH's defense held Monmouth to 71 rushing yards as a team – they entered the game averaging 192 – in part because of Mcallister's 3.5 sacks that accounted for a loss of 29 yards and two turnovers.
