Cronin and Lavins each post one goal and one assist
STORRS, Conn. – Senior forward Robert Cronin (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore forward Marty Lavins (Riga, Latvia) each recorded one goal and one assist for two points but the No. 16 University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to UConn, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Toscano Family Ice Forum in Hockey East action.
The Wildcats fall to 10-6-3 (2-5-2 Hockey East), while the Huskies improve to 11-8-1 (6-6-1 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Huskies took a 1-0 lead at 16:32 of the first period when Hudson Schandor sent a shot from the left faceoff circle stick side for the power play goal.
- UConn increased the lead to 2-0 at 1:32 of the second period with a goal by Joey Muldowney as he controlled a pass from Jake Richard with his skate and then scored glove side from just outside the crease.
- At 18:54 the Huskies made it a 3-0 game when Tabor Heaslip stole the puck in the UNH zone and fired a shot from the slot to the upper stick side of the net for the shorthanded goal.
- The Wildcats cut the deficit to 3-1 with a power play goal by Cronin with just 38 seconds remaining in the second period when he backhanded the puck stick side. The goal was his seventh of the season. Lavins and sophomore forward Jason Siedem (Madison, N.J.) each posted an assist on the goal.
- The Wildcats cut the UConn lead to 3-2 at 6:18 of the third period with their second power play goal of the game when Lavins blasted a shot from the slot to the back of the net off a pass from Cronin. The goal was his seventh of the season. Senior defenseman Luis Lindner (Spittal an der Drau, Austria) also tallied an assist on the goal.
- With 1:03 left in the third period, the Wildcats went on a power play and then pulled the goalie with 57 seconds remaining for the extra skater but were unable to score the equalizer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UConn outshot UNH, 36-28.
- The Wildcats went 2-6 on the power play and the Huskies went 1-4.
- Junior goalie Jared Whale (Calgary, Alberta) made 25 saves and is now 10-6-3, while Callum Tung tallied 26 saves for the Huskies to improve to 4-2-0.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Cronin has scored a goal in two straight games and now has 10 career multi-point games.
- Lavins posted his second multi-point game of his career.
