RICHMOND, Va. –Seth Morgan (Pittsburgh, Pa.), a senior quarterback on the University of New Hampshire football team, was named the CAA Football co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Morgan was also named recipient of the New England Football Writers Association Division I Gold Helmet Award on Sunday in recognition for his record-tying performance on Sept. 14.
Morgan, in his first home start as a Wildcat (transfer from D-II Shepherd College and the first two games of the season on the road), tied a 20-year-old school record with six touchdown passes in UNH's 45-6 victory against Stonehill College. He matched the benchmark set by current UNH head coach Rick Santos on Oct. 2, 2004 at Villanova University.
Morgan went 22 of 30 for 387 yards and had no turnovers. He completed passes to eight different receivers, threw touchdowns to three different targets, and had two wide receivers eclipse the 100-yard mark in just three quarters of play.
New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 21 (3 p.m.) against Bryant University for Family Weekend at Wildcat Stadium. To purchase tickets, go to www.unhwildcats.com/tickets or call the ticket office at (603) 862-4000 or e-mail unh.tickets@unh.edu.
Morgan connected with Joey Corcoran (Montreal, Quebec) for scores of 11 and 56 yards in the first quarter to give UNH a 14-6 lead. In the second quarter, Morgan threw a 53-yard touchdown to Caleb Burke (Johnstown, Pa.) at 9:44 and found Colby Ramshaw (Londonderry, N.H.) for a 19-yard TD with five seconds on the clock to send the 'Cats into the locker room with a 28-6 lead.
He hit Burke in stride for a 68-yard TD play at 9:14 of the third quarter and combined with Corcoran for the third scoring connection of the game – this time a 32-yarder – at 6:39. On his last drive of the game, Morgan led UNH on an 8-play, 35-yard drive that culminated in a 44-yard field goal and gave the Wildcats a 45-6 lead.
This is the second consecutive week a UNH Wildcat has been honored as the conference co-Offensive Player of the Week. Running back Isaac Seide (Everett, Mass.) was honored last week.
