Guarente Strikes Twice as UNH Defeats NJIT for Fourth Straight Win

Wildcats Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play
DURHAM, N.H. – Senior forward Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.) scored two goals to lead the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team past NJIT, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Lubetkin Field.
Redshirt junior captain Sally Rainey (West Lebanon, N.H.) made three saves to secure the clean sheet, while NJIT goalkeeper Samantha Constantine recorded two saves.
The Wildcats improve to 9-2-1 on the season and 4-0 in the America East, while the Highlanders fall to 3-8-1 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

- UNH will travel to face UMass Lowell on Thursday, Oct. 17. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Cushing Field Complex.

- UNH earned a free kick just outside the box in the 18th minute. Guarente fired a dangerous shot toward the bottom right corner after a clever trick play, but Constantine made a diving save.
- Just three minutes later, after an NJIT goal kick, graduate Delaney Lappin (Corbin City, N.J.) won possession and passed to Guarente at the top of the box. Guarente took a couple of touches to avoid the Highlanders' defenders and buried a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner.

- NJIT nearly had the equalizer in the 30th minute. They won a free kick near midfield and delivered a great ball into the box, met by a header. However, Rainey used a full extension to make the save and keep the Highlanders off the board.
- In the 64th minute, Guarente received a pass from sophomore Elizabeth Finn (Scituate, Mass.) while posting up inside the box with her back turned to the goal. She spun and fired with her right foot, finding the bottom left corner.

- Guarente scored her seventh and eighth goals of the season.
- Rainey and the Wildcats' defense earned their conference-leading eighth shutout of the season and have now held opponents scoreless for 373 consecutive minutes.
- The 'Cats are off to their best start in program history through 12 games (9-2-1) and have their first 4-0 start in conference play since 2017.
- New Hampshire has limited opponents to one goal or less in 11 of 12 games, outscoring them 18-5 during this stretch.
