Wildcats Clinch Spot in Championship Tournament

Durham, N.H. - Midway through the second half, Abbi Maier (Cincinnati, Ohio) came up with a header on a cross from Anna Hewlett (Webster, N.Y.) to put UNH ahead of Bryant. With the win, UNH clinches a spot in the America East Women's Soccer Championship tournament.

Redshirt junior captain Sally Rainey (West Lebanon, N.H.) made two saves to secure the clean sheet, while Bryant goalkeeper Selena Negron tallied nine saves.

The Wildcats improve to 10-3-1 on the season and 5-1 in the America East, while Bryant Falls to 5-7-3 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.

UNH will travel to face UMBC on Sunday, Oct. 27. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park.

With 12:58 remaining in the first half, Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.) fired a shot from just outside the 18-yard box, but Negron narrowly deflected it, keeping the score tied 0-0 going into the half.
Early in the second half, the Wildcats appeared to open the scoring when a free kick from Elaina Grenz (River Edge, N.J.) found Megan Logue (Oak Hills, Calif.), but the goal was disallowed for offside.
In the 66th minute, Maier secured the winning goal with a header off a cross from Hewlett, who found space on the left wing and delivered the ball into the box. Maier met it perfectly, heading it into the back corner of the net.
