'Cats Sweep America East Weekly Field Hockey Awards

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire field hockey team swept the America East weekly awards Aug. 29 with Tasmin Cookman (Woking, England) as Offensive Player of the Week, Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) as Defensive Player of the Week and Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands) as Rookie of the Week.
The Wildcat trio led UNH to a 2-0 week with a 4-3 overtime win against Quinnipiac University on Aug. 25 followed by a 4-0 victory vs. Michigan State University on Aug. 27.
Cookman recorded three goals and an assist for a team-leading seven points in the opening weekend of the 2023 season. The sophomore midfielder factored in both game-winning goals by scoring one and assisting on the other.
Cookman gave UNH a 1-0 lead 4:18 into the game against Quinnipiac and lifted the Wildcats to a 4-3 victory when she scored with two seconds left in the first overtime session. It was her fifth career multiple-goal game (in 21 games).
She followed that with a goal and an assist vs. Michigan State. She set up the first goal of the game, which proved to be the game-winning tally, at 12:18. UNH took a 2-0 lead into halftime and Cookman ensured that momentum remained in the Wildcats' favor by scoring a goal 48 seconds into the third quarter.
This is Cookman's third career America East Offensive Player of the Week award.

Woods went 2-0 with a 1.47 GAA and .750 save percentage in last week's action.
The grad student had a combined shutout of Michigan State in the Wildcats' 4-0 win against the Spartans. Woods stopped all six shots she faced in the opening 53:30 of the game. In the season opener, Woods made three saves – including one in overtime – in a 4-3 win against Quinnipiac.
Woods has five career America East Defensive Player of the Week awards. She has received this accolade in Week 1 three consecutive years.

Knuttel recorded a goal and an assist in UNH's 2-0 season-opening weekend. She scored the game-tying goal with 2:36 remaining in regulation against Quinnipiac and the 'Cats went on to an OT win.
In the victory vs. Michigan State, the freshman midfielder recorded an assist on UNH's second goal of the game, which gave the 'Cats a 2-0 lead at 22:23.
Knuttel was one of four 'Cats to record a point in both games. Her three points ranks third on the squad.
