Senior places first on uneven bars, floor exercise in 195.125-193.750 defeat of Brown
DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Kylie Gorgenyi (North Reading, Mass.) made her Senior Day meet one to remember with individual wins on uneven bars and floor exercise while freshman Serena Mullin (Hamden, Conn.) and sophomore Alyssa Beaulieu (Holyoke, Mass.) each set a personal best on balance beam to propel the University of New Hampshire gymnastics team to Sunday's 195.125-193.750 win against Brown University at the Whittemore Center.
Gorgenyi scored a 9.925 on bars and a 9.850 on floor, Mullin posted a 9.900 for first on beam with Beaulieu adding a second-place 9.875 beam score on her way to an all-around victory (39.100) for UNH (16-7, 5-2 EAGL).
HOW IT HAPPENED
•Sophomore Gracy Mowers (Middleton, Mass.) headlined the Wildcats' vault lineup with a 9.825 to place runner-up to Brown's Julia Bedell (9.850). Gorgenyi shared third place with the Bears' Abby Contello (9.775), and senior co-captain Robyn Kelley (Wakefield, Mass.) scored a 9.750 for fifth. The 'Cats totaled a 48.725 on vault.
•On bars, Gorgenyi's victory was complemented by a fourth-place-tying 9.775 from freshman Leah Moreno (Cary, N.C.), who equaled Contello. Brown's Lauren Mckeown and Ella Poley tied for second (9.800), and the Wildcats recorded a 48.900 bar total.
•UNH's beam lineup (48.625) swept the top three spots with the Mullin-Beaulieu 1-2 punch supported by senior Alyssa Worthington (West Warwick, R.I.), who took third with a 9.850.
•In a fitting final rotation, seniors Gorgenyi and Kelley (9.825) claimed first and second, respectively, while freshman Riley Himes (Orlando, Fla.) made it a podium sweep for the Wildcats with her third-place 9.800. The 'Cats compiled a 48.875 floor score.
NEXT UP • 2023 EAGL CHAMPIONSHIP • SATURDAY, MARCH 18– 1 p.m., 7 p.m.
•UNH plays host to the 2023 EAGL Championship, presented by Mass General Brigham Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, on Saturday, March 18. The Wildcats will take part in the 7 p.m. quad meet against the top three EAGL teams according to National Qualifying Score (NQS) -- North Carolina State, Towson and North Carolina. The 1 p.m. quad meet features George Washington, Pittsburgh, LIU and Temple. The highest-scoring team among the eight schools will be crowned the 2023 EAGL champion.
The Wildcats have won EAGLs the last three times (2003, 2014, 2019) the Whittemore Center was the host venue. This will mark the final season for EAGL as an eight-team conference.
