Wildcats score a 196.550 to defeat ISU, Pitt and SCSU
DURHAM, N.H. – Senior co-captain Robyn Kelley (Wakefield, Mass.) set a personal best 9.950 to win balance beam Sunday to lead the UNH gymnastics team to its highest score of the season and its fourth-highest mark ever with a 196.550 to defeat Illinois State, Pittsburgh and Southern Connecticut State at the Whittemore Center.
The Wildcats upped their record to 12-6 overall, 9-2 at home and 5-2 in the EAGL standings.
Kelley's beam score equaled the sixth-highest ever at UNH, and senior Kylie Gorgenyi (North. Reading, Mass.) took first place on uneven bars with a 9.925, which tied for No. 9 in school history, and posted a career-best floor score (9.875).
"Today was such an exciting meet," head coach Lindsey Bruck Ayotte said. "It was nice to have another great score, but what I loved more was the fight the team showed. They had each other's backs, and that is one of the greatest things about college gymnastics."
Illinois State placed second (195.600), followed by Pitt (194.875) and SCSU (193.400).
The 196.550 score was the highest since the 'Cats totaled a 196.675 on March 8, 2014.
"We are excited to continue building on the momentum we have gained from the last few meets on the road this week," Bruck Ayotte added.
