NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- The University of New Hampshire men's cross country team earned a fourth place finish among 13 teams at the Ted Owen Invitational 8k race on Saturday morning hosted by Central Connecticut State at Stanley Quarter Park.
Freshman Samuel Hilts (Concord, N.H.) led the way once again for the 'Cats with a 10th place finish with a mark of 26:34, while sophomore Kevin Finn (Kennebunk, Maine) was UNH's next highest finisher with a time of 26:43 and a 14th place finish.
"It was good to be out their racing, we have been training well for the last two weeks, I think we have taken some really nice steps in the right direction," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "We are very excited about our young group, I think our freshman and sophomore athletes are doing a really nice job. These student-athletes are doing a great job of coming together as a team and racing as hard as they possibly can and training very hard. We are looking forward to more improvement as the season goes along."
Freshman Zachary Hooper (Concord, N.H.) turned in a time of 26:51, which was 17th best among the field. Junior Kenney McElroy (West Linn, Ore.) earned a 28th place finish with a mark of 27:23, while sophomore Peyton Ramsey (Plainville, Conn.) was 31st (27:26).
UNH returns to action on Friday, September 30 at the Paul Short Invitational (9:30am) hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
