Guarente’s Three Goals, One Assist Propels ‘Cats Past BU, 4-1

DURHAM, NH. – Sophomore midfielder Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.) led the Wildcats with three goals and one assist on Sunday afternoon as the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team defeated Boston University, 4-1, at Wildcat Stadium.
Freshman forward Elaina Grenz (River Edge, N.J.) helped feed the fire with her first collegiate goal.
The Wildcats record improves to 3-4-0 and the Terriers fall to 3-5-0.

UP NEXT
The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Wildcat Stadium when they face off against America East opponent UAlbany with a 2 p.m. kickoff.

FIRST HALF
- Guarente got the scoring started for the Wildcats in the 27th minute with an unassisted goal finding its way to the low right side of the net.
SECOND HALF
- Giulianna Gianino put Boston University on the board when she buried the ball on the lower left side of the net after two quick passes by teammates Morgan Fagan and Lily Matthews in the 52nd minute.
-Junior forward Emily Bini (Guilderland, N.Y.) attempted a shot that was saved by Gretchen Bennett. The ball got redirected to Guarente and she fired it to the back of the net past the diving goalkeeper for her second goal of the game in the 56th minute.
- In the 62nd minute. Guarente passed the ball to Grenz, splitting two defenders, who received the pass and rocketed a shot that beat Bennett giving the Wildcats a 3-1 lead.
-Junior froward Keegan Mayer (Summit, N.J.) crossed the ball in the air from the left side and Guarente got up and headed it to the back of the net for her third goal of the game in the 81st minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Wildcats outshot the Terriers 16-12.
- Sheppard had six saves while Bennett made two.
- UNH took three corner kicks compared to BU's eight.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Grenz scored her first collegiate goal to help the 'Cats secure the victory.
- This was the first time that Guarente had a multi goal game as a Wildcat.
- The 'Cats set three season highs Sunday including most goals scored in a game, most points scored in a game and most assists notched in a game.
