Five 'Cats Earn Distinguished Scholar Status
AMESBURY, Mass. – Twenty student-athletes on the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team were named to Hockey East's 2021-22 Women's All-Academic Team. The announcement was made by the league on Monday.
Four Wildcats – Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island), Nicky Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.), Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) and Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) – were among a total of 17 women's players to earn the prestigious honor of being named Hockey East's Top Scholar-Athlete for compiling a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in the 2021-22 academic year.
All 17 of those student-athletes, including the four 'Cats, comprise the 2021-22 Hockey East All-Academic All-Star Team. UNH's four representatives matched the highest league total; Northeastern University also had four honorees.
Boutilier and Rickwood were among five Wildcats – and 25 women's Hockey East players – who received Distinguished Scholar status by qualifying for the All-Academic Team each of the past four seasons. The others were Lindsey Dumond (Hampton, N.H.), Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario) and Paige Rynne (Ancaster, Ontario). Also of note, this marked Boutilier's fifth consecutive year on the All-Academic Team.
Every student-athlete on the 2021-22 Hockey East All-Academic Team achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in both academic semesters of competition. A total of 184 student-athletes were honored on this year's women's team.
Juniors Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.), Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario), Harnett and Ava Thewes (Clarkston, Mich.) were named to the All-Academic Team for the third time in as many years. Classmate Tamara Thiérus (Saint-Jérôme, Quebec) made the team for the second time; she was also honored in 2019-20.
Sophomores Kyla Bent (Halifax, Nova Scotia), Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario), Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario), Avery Myers (Fargo, N.D.) and Ciara Wall (Hampton, N.H.) all received the accolade for the second consecutive year.
Senior Maddie Truax (Gardner, Mass.) and sophomore Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) are first time honorees.
Freshmen Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.), Juodikis and Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) all received the accolade in their first year as Wildcats.
