AMESBURY, Mass. – Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.) of the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
Hammer scored three goals, including one game-winning goal, in UNH's home-and-home sweep of Holy Cross on Feb. 11-12. She scored the three goals on four shots for a .750 shooting percentage and also finished the weekend with a +3 rating.
Hammer scored the Wildcats' two goals in last Friday's 2-1 home win; she tied the score, 1-1, early in the second period and netted what proved to be the game-winning goal at 7:25 of the final frame. It marked her first multiple-goal and multiple-point game of her career.
UNH led 3-2 at the second intermission of Saturday's game at Holy Cross, then Hammer scored 2:57 into the third period to give the 'Cats a two-goal advantage en route to a 5-2 victory.
This is the fourth time this season a UNH Wildcat has been honored as Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week. Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) received the award Oct. 25, Nov. 1 and Jan. 10.
New Hampshire returns to action Feb. 15 (6 p.m.) at home against No. 4 Northeastern University. The Wildcats wrap up the regular season Feb. 18-19 at the University of Maine.
