Dudley Strikes Late in 2-1 Loss to UMass Lowell

DURHAM, N.H. -- Sophomore Ella Dudley (St. Augustine, Fla.) scored her second goal of the season, but the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team lost 2-1 to UMass Lowell at Wildcat Stadium on Thursday night.
Dudley headed the ball into the goal off a corner kick in the 89th minute. Senior goalkeeper Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) made six saves.
UML goalie Lisa Sjogren was credited with seven saves. Emily Nelson and Ionna Papthondorou scored the River Hawks' goals.
UNH is now 2-6-2 overall and 0-3-0 in the America East conference. UMass Lowell is 6-3-1 and 3-0-0 in conference.

- Sheppard dove for a save in the 31st minute after Laerke Niklasson sent a shot to the bottom left.
- UMass Lowell's Nelson converted a penalty kick into the top-left corner in the 41st minute (40:44) resulting in the visitors leading 1-0 at half.
- UMass Lowell recorded the first shot of the second half when Stephanie Kemp sent the ball to the bottom center in the 55th minute.
- Sophomore Alivia Kelly (Pembroke, Mass.) sent a shot to the center of the goal but was blocked by Sjögren at the 66th minute.
- Papatheordorou fired a shot to the top left at 88th minute (87:39) to give the River Hawks a 2-0 lead.
- Sophomore Ella Dudley (St. Augustine, Fla.) headed the ball finding the back of the net for the Wildcats at the 89th minute (88:47). The scoring sequence initiated on a short corner on the left side from sophomore Emily Bini (Guilderland, N.Y.) to classmate Anna Hewlett (Webster, N.Y.). Hewlett's crossing pass into the center of the box found Dudley.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UMass Lowell tallied an 18-12 shot advantage. UNH led shots on goal with nine.
- UNH finished with a 6-3 edge in corners.
- Guarente had a team-high three shots for the 'Cats.
- Dudley is the first Wildcat with multiple goals scored this season. Her four points are also a team high.
- The six saves matched a season high for Sheppard, who was also credited with six stops against both Northeastern University (Aug. 26) and Syracuse University (Sept. 5).
- This was New Hampshire's first home game since Sept. 5. The 'Cats played four road matches between home games.
