Mayer's Late Goal Lifts 'Cats to 1-1 Tie at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. – Sophomore Keegan Mayer (Summit, N.J.) scored a late game-tying goal to lift the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team so Sunday afternoon's 1-1 draw against UAlbany at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
Mayer's goal came in the 82nd minute. UNH senior goalkeeper Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) was credited with three saves, including two in the 20 minutes of overtime.
UAlbany goalie Cassandra Coster stopped six shots – she also had two saves in the extra sessions – and Jasmine Colbert netted the Great Danes' goal in the 73rd minute.
UNH moves to 2-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in America East. UAlbany is now 1-5-3, 0-1-1.

FIRST HALF
- Both the shots and corner kicks were even, 4-4, with UNH holding a 2-0 edge in shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
- The Wildcats generated back-to-back corner kicks in the second minute but did not record a shot.
- Sophomore Ella Dudley (St. Augustine, Fla.) had the first shot of the game but was denied by Coster in the 11th minute.
- Classmate Emily Bini (Guilderland, N.Y.) also put a shot on goal in the 17th minute, but that was also stopped by Coster.
- Senior captain Francesca Picicci (North Massapequa, N.Y.) saw her shot carom off the crossbar in the 26th minute.
SECOND HALF
- UNH had a 7-5 shot advantage with a 3-1 edge in corners in the second half.
- UAlbany's Marisa Tava struck a shot that hit the crossbar in the 58th minute.
- The Great Danes took a 1-0 lead at 72:52. Charlotte Takacsy's service in the box was played by a UNH defender, but the loose ball went to Colbert, who fired a shot into the open right side from 10 yards.
- The 'Cats converted a corner kick into a goal and 1-1 tie score at 81:05. The right-corner service across the box was headed by Dudley down to junior Shayna Salis (Bedford, N.H.). Her touch was corralled by sophomore Alivia Kelly (Pembroke, Mass.), whose attempt was blocked. Mayer ran onto the loose ball on the right side and placed a shot inside the far post.
- UNH pressured in the closing minutes and a shot by freshman Abbie Burgess (Killingly, Conn.) rang off the crossbar. The ball went back to Burgess, and this time her shot toward the middle of the cage was snared by Coster.
- Freshman Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.) put a shot low in the middle that Coster easily saved to extend the game.
FIRST OVERTIME
- UAlbany had a 4-2 shot advantage in the opening 10 minutes of OT.
- Olivia Piraino came close to putting an early end to the extra session when her shot ricocheted off the left post 24 seconds into overtime.
- The Great Danes sustained pressure and Sheppard leapt toward the left post to knock Tava's rising shot over the end line.
SECOND OVERTIME
- The home team had the 2-1 edge in shots in the final 10 minutes of the game.
- UNH had the only shot on goal, however, and Guarente was again denied by Coster in the 103rd minute.
- Tava's shot sailed over the crossbar in the 109th minute.
- The Great Danes had one last chance on a corner kick with 38 seconds remaining. The Wildcats never successfully cleared the ball to midfield, but did succeed in preventing UAlbany from recording another shot.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UAlbany finished with a 15-14 shot advantage that included 7-4 on goal.
- Corner kicks were even at 7.
- Guarente finished with a team-high four shots, including three on goal.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- UNH went 1-2-1 in this stretch of four consecutive road games, which began Sept. 9 with a 1-0 win at Siena College (Loudonville, N.Y., which neighbors Albany).
- Mayer is UNH's sixth different goal scorer this season, and no Wildcat has more than one goal.
- Sheppard's season numbers improved to a 1.05 GAA and .756 save percentage.
