BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Erin Malone (Crofton, Md.) of the University of New Hampshire was named to the 2020 NFHCA Division I Senior Team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Wednesday.
The 2020 NFHCA Senior Game was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the NFHCA Division I membership agreed to recognize a selected group from the graduating Class of 2021 who played – or would have played – their senior season during the 2020-21 academic year.
The 38 selected student-athletes were nominated by their coach and chosen based on career accomplishments.
Malone is a defender who started all 11 games she played – she missed the season opener – and played 653 of a possible 664 minutes (98.3%). In fact, Malone played 60 minutes each of the last 10 games of the season. She was also part of the Wildcats' defensive penalty corner unit.
In four years, Malone played in 41 games with 35 starts. She emerged as a starter as a sophomore in the 2018 season with nine starts in 12 games played, and then had 15 starts in 17 games played in '19.
Malone, named to the Spring 2021 America East All-Academic Team, is a member of UNH's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and biomedical science major with a 3.81 GPA. She has made the NFHCA National Academic Squad all four years and the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll every year.
Malone was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society, Alpha Chi Sigma, in 2020 and was also part of the Class of 2021.
This is the sixth consecutive year a UNH Wildcat has been selected to the Senior Team/for the Senior Game; the previous honorees were Kayla Sliz (2019), Rachel Bossi (2018), Gianna Bensaia (2017), Lindsey Nerbonne (2016), and Meg Flatley and Chandler Giese (2015).
