Wildcats Defeat Maine; Colbert Breaks Own School Record for the Second Straight Week

Wildcats win 11 events.
RESULTS
DURHAM, N.H. – For the second consecutive week, graduate student Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) broke her own school record in the discus throw as the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team earned a 145-119 victory against the University of Maine in a dual meet on Sunday afternoon at Reggie Atkins Track and Field Facility.
UNH was victorious in 11 of 17 events on the day against the Black Bears, which included winning seven of nine running events and four of the eight field events.
The Wildcats return to return to action on Saturday, April 17 for the George Davis Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell at Cushing Field Complex. The multi-team meet begins at 10 am on AmericaEast.tv
DISCUS
Colbert placed first with a school-record throw of 157'4"and junior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) finished second with a throw of 124'0".
JAVELIN
Senior Alexandra Toback (Pompton Plains, N.J.) paced the Wildcats with a second-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 114'8". Graduate student Bosibori Mosongo (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Taylor Purcell (Danvers, Mass.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with throws of 93'1" and 92'8".
HAMMER
Colbert threw 160'7" for a second-place finish for the Wildcats, while junior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) finished right behind Colbert in third place at 156'5".
Freshman Abby Chorches (East Falmouth, Mass.) rounded out the Wildcats in the event at 131'11" in seventh place.
HIGH JUMP
Freshman Jori Santos (Bedford, N.H.) took second in the high jump at 4'11".
POLE VAULT
Senior Jordan Hoffman (North Chelmsford, Mass.) took the top spot at 11'2.50" in the lone UNH competitor in the event.
LONG JUMP
The Wildcats dominated the long jump taking four of the top five spots on the day. Freshman Mia Taranko (Saco, Maine) earned the top spot with a jump of 17'5.25", while junior Saige Tudisco (Haverhill, Mass.) placed second at 16'10.50.
Sophomore Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.) was fourth (16'7.75") and junior Savannah Vartabedian (Wilbraham, Mass.) recorded a 16'6" mark, which earned her a fifth place finish.
TRIPLE JUMP
Mia Taranko earned a fifth place finish for the Wildcats at 33'8.50".
SHOT PUT
Sarah Williams won the shot put with a distance of 41'11.25".
4 X 100M RELAY
UNH won the relay with a time of 49.53 comprised of Almasian, Vartabedian, Crawford and Tudisco.
1500 METERS
UNH took the first six spots in the event led by graduate student Meg Champagne (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) placing first with a time of 4:44.93, while graduate student Elisabeth Danis (Nottingham, N.H.) and sophomore Cailey Archer (Berthoud, Colo.) came in second and third respectively, with times of 4:47.01 and 4:53.32.
Coming fourth and fifth were juniors Sydney Rice (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Althea Devereux (Jericho, V.T.) posting times of 5:03.81 and 5:06.93, respectively.
Freshman Madison Hoppler (Durham, N.H.) finished in ninth place and sophomore Victoria Dean (Laconia, N.H.) placed 10th, with marks of 5:16.46 and 5:16.92.
100M HURDLES
Tudisco led the way for the Wildcats with a time of 15.55 for a first-place finish.
400 METERS
UNH took three of the top four finishers in the event, which included a first-place finish from freshman Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) with a mark of 57.63.
Freshman Hannah Langstaff (Windham, Maine) placed second at 1:04.32, while junior Kaitlyn Covell (Loudon, N.H.) finished fourth at 1:06.28.
100 METERS
Savannah Vartabedian placed third among five competitors at 13.07 as the lone entrant for the Wildcats.
800 METERS
The 'Cats took three of the top five finishers in the event with senior Cayla Barretto (Woburn, Mass.) leading the way at 2:15.61 for a first-place marker, while junior Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) placed second with a time of 2:15.98. Junior Lauren Dean (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.) posted a time of 2:17.75 for a third place tally.
200 METERS
The Wildcats earned four of the top five spots in the event, led by senior Kelly Crawford (Mansfield, Mass.) earned a second-place finish with a time of 26.82, while Mosongo placed third at 27.01. Jori Santos was fourth (28.70) and Covell earned the fifth spot (28.92).
3000 METERS
Junior Jennika Mannesto (Concord, N.H.) earned a team best 10:31.75 in the event for a first-place finish in the victory for the Wildcats, followed by senior Caroline Mahoney (Bedford, N.H.) in third at 10:48.14. Sophomore Violet Sullivan (Brentwood, N.H.) placed fourth (10:50.09) and junior Maison D'Amelio (Auburn, N.H.) was fifth at 10:55 and graduate student Morgan Sansing (Chester, N.H.) was sixth (11:05.36).
4 X 400 METER RELAY
The Wildcats group of Archer, Yeomans, Dean and Martell placed first with a time of 4:10.24, while UNH's second place team (4:23.33) was comprised of Nolan, Barretto, Hoppler and Langstaff.
