Kacey Bellamy, a three-time Olympian and 2009 graduate of the University of New Hampshire has given herself a new challenge: Helping to grow professional women's hockey.
After four years of playing for the Boston Blades in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL), two years with the Boston Pride in the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) and one final season with the Calgary Inferno in 2019 in the CWHL, Bellamy has turned her attention to a new league in North America.
Bellamy, 33, has joined the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association, which was established two years ago. Bellamy is listed as a defenseman for the Calgary entry in the six-team organization.
The mission of the organization is to promote, advance, and support a single, viable professional women's ice hockey league in North America that showcases women's players.
"We just want a sustainable women's hockey league," Bellamy said. "We want it to be something that girls can aspire to do after college."
