BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior captains Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and Isabelle Danahy (Chelmsford, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team were named to the 2021 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Northeast Region First Team and Second Team, respectively, on Monday.
Earlier this month, van den Brekel was named to the 2021 NFHCA Senior Team, the America East Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team. She was selected to the NFHCA Northeast Region First Team in 2019 and Second Team in '18.

In addition to anchoring UNH's defensive unit – including the penalty corner unit – van den Brekel pushed upfield to join the Wildcats' attack and was an integral part of the offensive penalty corner. She made those contributions from one end line to the other while playing 1,172 of a possible 1,178 minutes.
van den Brekel finished atop the Wildcats' leaderboard in goals (nine), game-winning goals (four), points (19) and shots (65). With those numbers in 19 games (all starts), she ranks second in America East in shots on goal per game (2.58), fifth in shots per game (3.63), ninth in goals and goals per game (0.47), and tied for fourth in game-winning goals.
van den Brekel recorded 11 points (five goals, one assist) during UNH's four-game winning streak from Oct. 17-29 with a goal in all four games. She scored both the game-tying and game-winning goals in the Wildcats' overtime win against Columbia during that stretch. Earlier this season, she also scored an overtime game winner at Bryant, and scored a goal in consecutive games against Cal and UC Davis.
In her UNH career, van den Brekel started all 84 games played with 29 goals and 17 assists for 75 points.

Danahy started all 19 games and played 1,113 of a possible 1,177 minutes (94.6%) to anchor the midfield. She finished the season with seven points, all on assists, and ranked second on the team with those seven assists. She was also credited with one defensive save.
Danahy ended her Wildcat career with a three-game point streak by recording an assist in the last two regular-season games against Stanford University and the University of Maine, and then in the America East quarterfinal vs. Cal.
Danahy also recorded an assist in back-to-back games against Bryant University and nationally-ranked Boston College. She tallied multiple assists for the first time in her career with two against Merrimack College.
In her Wildcat career, Danahy played in 87 games with 71 starts (including every game in the 2019, 2020-21 and 2021 seasons). She tallied four goals and 12 for 20 points.
The NFHCA Regional Players of the Year are announced Nov. 29, followed by the NFCHA All-America Teams on Dec. 14 and NFHCA National Player of the Year on Dec. 16.
