Diggan, Hampford to serve as 2020-21 Gymnastics Co-Captains

Wildcat seniors chosen to lead defending EAGL co-champions
DURHAM, N.H.– University of New Hampshire gymnastics head coach Lindsey Bruck Ayotte announced that rising seniors Lauren Diggan(Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Clare Hampford(Trumbull, Conn.) have been selected to serve as co-captains for the 2020-21 season.
"We are excited to announce Clare and Lauren as our 2020-21 co-captains," Bruck Ayotte said. "They are going to build off their previous three years to lead the team next year. Clare and Lauren have each led in different ways, but together they will help propel us to where we want to go."

Diggan, a kinesiology: health and physical education major, is a three-time member of the EAGL All-Scholastic Team and a two-time WCGA Scholastic All-American. She has been a three-year competitor on vault (9.925 Personal Best), uneven bars (9.925 PB) and floor exercise (9.900 PB). In 2018, Diggan was a five-time EAGL Rookie of the Week, earned All-EAGL First Team on bars and was subsequently named the team MVP. She repeated as an All-EAGL First Team bar competitor in 2019, but her 2020 campaign was cut short by injury three weeks into the season.

Hampford saw action on bars (9.775 PB) and beam (9.775 PB) as a freshman before working her way into a full-time bar lineup spot sophomore year when she garnered the team's Most Improved Award. In 2020, she added floor (9.825 PB) to her repertoire. The nursing major is a three-time EAGL All-Scholastic Gymnast and two-time WCGA Scholastic All-American.
"They will be that listening ear for their teammates while also keeping everyone on the same page in terms of achieving team goals for the upcoming year," Bruck Ayotte added.
About UNH Gymnastics
In 2020, the Wildcat gymnastics team shared the inaugural EAGL regular-season championship with North Carolina State and posted a 195.270 National Qualifying Score (NQS), which was ranked 41stnationally. The EAGL Championships and NCAA Championships were cancelled when the season was cancelled March 12 due to the COVID-19 public health threat. UNH won the 2019 EAGL Championship at the Whittemore Center.
