Two former Wildcat teammates join Team Dempsey in the 2020 NWHL All-Star Game.
DURHAM, N.H. – The draft is complete, and two University of New Hampshire women's hockey alums have been selected to Team Dempsey in the National Women's Hockey League 2020 All-Star Game, set for Sunday, February 9 at 2:30 P.M. at the Warrior Ice Arena in Boston, Mass.
Former Wildcats Jonna Curtis '17 of the Minnesota Whitecaps, and Marie-Jo Pelletier '19 of the Buffalo Beauts, were both selected by the Boston Pride's Jillian Dempsey as members of her All-Star Squad.
Curtis most recently lifted the Isobel Cup, the NWHL's championship trophy, this past March and was named Newcomer of the Year in the 2018-19 season. She was selected sixth overall in the forwards round by team Dempsey. Curtis is fourth on the Whitecaps this season with 13 points (6g, 7a).
Pelletier was the first defender taken in the pick-by-pick draft on Thursday afternoon; Pelletier has already set a Buffalo Beauts record for points by a defender, with 17 in her rookie season; her 17 points (5g, 12s) ranks for second on the team.
Curtis and Pelletier will skate on the same roster for the first time since the Hockey East Quarterfinals in February of 2017; Pelletier tallied two goals for the Wildcats in a 3-2 loss to Boston University.
"I am so happy for and proud of MJ and Jonna," says head coach Hilary Witt. "They have worked really hard to be where they are today. They both made huge contributions to the UNH Hockey program and continue to in their pro careers. Neither of them can claim they possess a ton of size but both of them have what's more important which is a huge heart, an unmatched compete level and a ton of skill. They leave it all on the ice and have earned every opportunity and accolade they have received!"
The NWHL All-Star Weekend kicks of February 8 at 8 P.M. at the Warrior Ice Arena with the All-Star Skills Challenge, which includes the Fastest Skater and Hardest Shot competitions. Both days will be streamed on the NWHL's Twitch.TV channel, www.twitch.tv/NWHL
