Mulligan earns Gymnast of Week, Lui claims Rookie of Week
BALTIMORE – The East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) announced Tuesday that University of New Hampshire senior gymnast Danielle Mulligan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week for the third time this season, and Wildcat freshman Hailey Lui (Collegeville, Pa.) earned her second consecutive EAGL honor after being named this week's EAGL Rookie of the Week.
The duo was honored for their respective performances in the Wildcats' two-meet weekend that produced three victories with a 194.800 in Friday's tri-meet defeat of host San Jose State (194.400) and Sacramento State (192.275), and a 196.025-195.525 dual-meet win at UC Davis on Sunday in which the Wildcat notched a season-high score and recorded their fifth straight win to improve to 11-2.
Mulligan won or shared first place in five events on the weekend. The Farmingdale, N.Y., native scored a 9.875 on uneven bars (T-1st) and placed first in all-around (39.200) on Friday at San Jose State. The senior posted a 9.825 on bars (first), a 9.900 on balance beam (first), and set a career high in all-around (39.325, first) at UC Davis on Sunday.
Lui recorded a personal-best 9.800 on bars (T-5th) on Friday night and matched that total to place second in Sunday's meet, and she added a career-high 9.850 on floor exercise (T-3rd) .
UNH has now won nine EAGL weekly honors in its first six weeks of competition:
