Sunday's matchup will be the first between the New Hampshire and Columbia field hockey programs.

UNH has a 7-8 record that includes 1-2 in America East and 4-5 on the road (1-0 in conference road games).
Including this weekend, only three games remain in the regular season and that includes America East games against Vermont and Maine.
The Wildcats have a 2-4 record against nationally-ranked teams.
UNH has lost three straight since its 4-2 double OT win at #21 UAlbany on Oct. 11.
Last Friday, the Wildcats were edged 3-2 by UMass Lowell in a shootout. The River Hawks pulled their goalie and tied the score with 27 seconds remaining to force overtime. After two scoreless overtimes, UML finally prevailed in the eighth round of the shootout. | Recap | Box
Last Sunday, UNH battled to a 2-0 loss to 13^th-ranked Boston College. Recap | Box
New Hampshire had a five-game winning streak spanning Sept. 8-27 that was highlighted by a 3-2 home win against #18 Stanford.

DEVELOPING THE PLAYOFF PICTURE

UNH is in a four-way tie for third place in the America East East Division standings with UAlbany, UMass Lowell and Vermont at 1-2.
Monmouth has already clinched a berth with a 3-0 conference record.
Maine is next at 2-1.
Four teams from the East Division advance to the conference tournament; the winner of the East Division will be host of the tourney Nov. 7-9.

'CAT NIPS

Kayla Sliz had a knack for finding the back of the cage in last Friday's 3-2 shootout loss to UMass Lowell. Her third-quarter goal tied the game, 1-1, in the 36^th minute. In the best-of-five shootout series, Sliz converted her chance in the second round. Then with the pressure of having to score in the sixth round, Sliz converted once again to extend the game.
Bailey Fanikos scored her fourth goal of the season vs. UMass Lowell; she has nine points in nine games this season.
Jemma Woods stopped 10 of 14 shots on goal in 140 minutes last week for a 1.71 GAA and .714 save percentage. She made five saves and allowed just two goals – one on a penalty stroke – against No. 13 Boston College last Sunday.

STAT LEADERS

Finn Caron leads the team in goals (nine), assists (three), points (21) and shots on goal (23).
Bloem van den Brekel and Maura Verleg are tied with Caron at three assists.
Kayla Sliz ranks second in goals (five) and points (12), as well as shots (35).
Bailey Fanikos and Ava Mariani have four goals; three of Mariani's tallies have been game-winners.
Nicky Bajus leads the Wildcats with two defensive saves. van den Brekel and Erin Malone both have one.
Freshman goalkeeper Jemma Woods has a 7-6 record with a 2.36 GAA and .683 save percentage in 14 games (13 starts).

CONFERENCE CALL

Finn Caron is ranked No. 6 in America East in goals per game (0.6) and No. 10 in points per game (1.40). She is also ninth in shots on goal per game (1.53).
Bloem van den Brekel is No. 3 in shots per game (3.33).

BALDUCCI BIO

This is the 29^th season as UNH head coach for Robin Balducci.
She is the program's all-time winningest coach with 287 career victories
Balducci was inducted into the NFHCA Hall of Fame on Jan. 5, 2017.
She was inducted into UNH's Hall of Fame in 1998 and was also part of the 1985 NCAA national championship women's lacrosse team that was enshrined in 1994.
Balducci is a six-time America East Coach of the Year (1998, 2000-10-11-12-13).

SCOUTING VERMONT • Home page

The University of Vermont (Burlington, Vt.) has a 5-8 overall record that includes 1-2 in America East and 2-2 at home.
The Catamounts have lost two straight since defeating UMass Lowell, 2-1 in overtime, on Oct. 11. Last Friday, UVM last at Maine.
Each of the last four Catamounts' games has ended in a 2-1 score; they've lost three of those four.

SCOUTING COLUMBIA • Home page

Columbia University (New York, N.Y.) enters the weekend with a 6-7 overall record that includes 2-2 on the road and 2-5 on the road.
The Lions play at Dartmouth College (Oct. 26) before traveling to Durham to face off against UNH.
Columbia is 1-4 the past five games and that includes losses to America East representatives UAlbany (3-1) and Monmouth (2-1).
Eight game have been decided by one goal (4-4 record).
