NEWTON, Mass. – Two days after recording a 6-0 victory against Bryant University, the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated by that same score by No. 9 Boston College on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Field Hockey Complex.\

UNH starting goalkeeper Madelyn McAteer (Annapolis, Md.) was credited with five saves and allowed five goals in 40 minutes, 43 seconds. Rachel Simkevich (Londonderry, N.H.) played the final 29:17 and stopped 2 of 3 shots on goal in her collegiate debut.

Jonna Kennedy and Sarah Dwyer combined for the shutout. Kennedy was credited with two saves in 43:24. Dwyer did not face a shot on goal in 26:36 of relief. BC's offense was led by Frederique Haverhals, Jaime Natale and Brigid Wood with one goal and one assist apiece.

UNH is now 2-6 overall while BC improves to 6-3.

NEXT GAME

UNH returns to action for its America East conference opener Sept. 28 at home against interstate rival Maine. Start time at Memorial Field is 3 p.m.

GAME RECAP

The game was scoreless for 19 minutes, but then Boston College broke through with two quick goals at 19:06 and 20:56. The battery of Lucy Lytle and Wood set up Haverhals for the first goal on a penalty corner, then Haverhals set up Maddy Dorn on another corner for the two-goal lead.
BC converted on a corner for the third time in the first half when Natale's shot was tipped in by Elizabeth Warner at 26:36.
The Eagles took that three-goal lead into halftime with a 16-1 shot advantage and 7-1 edge in corners.
Natale then scored an unassisted goal to give the home team a 4-0 lead at 39:34.
Both of the last two goals were generated on penalty corners. Elizabeth Dennehy struck at 40:43 and Wood, with the assistance of Carly Kauffman, closed the scoring at 62:03.

NOTES

Four of UNH's six losses this season have been to nationally-ranked teams.
Four Wildcats recorded one shot apiece: Nicky Bajus (Lions Bay, British Columbia), Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.), Kayla Sliz (Ajax, Ontario) and Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands).
