UNH Remains Undefeated at Home With 1-0 Win Over UMBC

Wildcats earn victory in America East opener.
DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Jack Doherty (Meriden, N.H.) scored the game winning goal as the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated UMBC, 1-0, at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday evening in the America East opener. The Wildcats improve to 6-1-1 (1-0-0 America East), while the Retrievers fall to 4-3-1 (0-1-0 America East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute (6:09) when junior Donnett Sackie (Monrovia, Liberia) sent a shot to the lower right corner of the goal that ricocheted off the post as Doherty knocked in the rebound.
- The Wildcats looked to take a 2-0 lead when Doherty drilled a shot from 10 yards out only to be snagged by UMBC goalie Ciaran O'Loughlin in the 27th minute.
- Then, sophomore Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) headed a shot to the bottom left corner of the net just inside the five, but the save was made by O'Loughlin in the 28th minute.
- At the half, the Wildcats had outshot the Retrievers, 9-0.
- In the 52nd minute, from 30 yards out, junior Antonio Colacci (Bradenton, Fla.) fired a shot towards the upper left corner, but O'Loughlin was able to keep it out of the net.
- In the 70th minute, graduate student Lars Huxsohl (Hamburg, Germany) made his first save of the game off a shot from 10 yards out by Colin Weyant to keep the game at 1-0.
- The Retrievers were unable to find the equalizer as the Wildcats secured the 1-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Huxsohl made one save to record his fourth shutout of the season, while O'Loughlin posted seven saves.
- UNH outshot UMBC, 12-2, while the Wildcats took seven shots on goal and the Retrievers tallied one.
- UNH had four corner kicks, while UMBC took four.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- This is Doherty's first goal of the season and his first game winner. Doherty now has four career goals with half of them being game winners.
- The Wildcats are 5-0-0 this season at home and are 15-0-3 at Wildcat Stadium over the last 18 games. UNH has outscored its opponents at home by a 33-8 margin over this span. Last year, UNH went 10-0-3 at Wildcat Stadium.
