Josh Bauer nets goals for Wildcats.

VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) cut the Bearcats' lead to 2-1 with a goal on penalty kick with just 4:13 left in the second half, but the Wildcats were unable to score the equalizer as the No. 23 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to Binghamton, 2-1, at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon in America East action. The Wildcats fall to 6-2-1 (1-1-0 America East), while the Bearcats improve to 3-5-2 (2-0-0 America East).

The Wildcats will play host to Harvard, on Tuesday, Oct. 2, on ESPN3 at 7:00 p.m. The Wildcats are 5-0-0 this season at home and are 15-0-3 all-time at Wildcat Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Bearcats took the first shot on goal of the game in the 15th minute when graduate student goalkeeper Lars Huxsohl (Hamburg, Germany) made a save on an attempt by Haris Brkovic.
In the 43rd minute, senior Juan Velazquez (San Francisco, Calif.) sent a shot on net but it was captured by Chris Shutler.
After the first half, the Wildcats outshot the Bearcats by a 5-2 margin, while each team took one shot on goal.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute (51:07) when Kevin Flesch knocked in a rebound off a shot by Noah Luescher that hit the post.
Binghamton increased its lead to 2-0 when Luescher blasted a shot from 25 yards out to the lower right corner of the net in the 66th minute (66:00).
Then in the 81st minute, sophomore Linus Fallberg (Jonkoping, Sweden) sent a one-timer from eight yards out but Shutler made a diving save to keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard.
The Wildcats then almost found the back of the net, but a shot from junior Donnett Sackie (Monrovia, Liberia) hit the lower left post.
But just 13 seconds later, the Bearcats were called for a penalty in the box and Bauer sent the penalty kick to the right side of the net to cut the Binghamton lead to 2-1 in the 86th minute (85:47).
The Bearcats then went down a man in the 88th minute (87:55) when Nikos Psarras was given his second yellow card of the game.
But the Wildcats were unable to find the equalizer for the 2-1 final score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Huxsohl made one save, while Shutler posted three saves.
UNH outshot Binghamton, 11-8, while the Wildcats took four shots on goal and the Bearcats tallied three.
UNH had three corner kicks, while Binghamton took one.
