DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire gymnastics team celebrated its 2018 season and announced its year-end award winners at Saturday's annual team banquet, which was held in the Gas Light in Portsmouth, N.H.
Freshman Lauren Diggan (Sinking Spring, Pa.) was named the team MVP. She recorded season-highs of 9.850 on vault, 9.925 on bars, and 9.900 on floor. She was named EAGL Rookie of the Week five times and had the second highest RQS on bars in the conference (9.870).
The Katie Baldwin Academic Excellence Award was presented to Erin Carroll (Kingston, N.H.), who boasts the team's top grade point average with a 3.95 as a kinesiology: athletic training major. Carroll is a three-time member of the EAGL All-Academic Team.
Senior co-captain Casey Lauter (Northport, N.Y.) was named Most Inspirational. Lauter earned a share of the EAGL regular season beam championship (9.910 RQS) and recorded a perfect 10 in her senior meet on March 11.
Freshman Clare Hampford (Trumbull, Conn.) earned the Most Improved Award. She was in-and-out of the starting lineup throughout the regular season, but stepped up at NCAA Regionals and recorded a 9.775 on beam and a 9.800 on floor, two of the team's highest scores.
Junior Nicole O'Leary (Newtown, Conn.) was honored with the team's Strength and Conditioning Award. O'Leary led the team's vault rotation with an RQS of 9.850. She recorded a career-high 9.900 on Feb. 10.
The banquet included recognition of the members of the 9.5 Club, established by the late Robert Houston, Sr., the Wildcats' number one fan, to honor each gymnast who scored at least one 9.500 during the season.

Sophomores Riley Freehling (Southington, Conn.), Ava Watkins (Cherry Hill, N.J.), and Emma Winer (Georgetown, Mass.) became second-time members. Third time recipients included Courtney Bondanza (Buffalo, N.Y.), Carroll, Danielle Doolin (Medford Lakes, N.J.), Makenzie Kerouac (Merrimack, N.H.), Danielle Mulligan (Farmingdale, N.Y.), and O'Leary.
