Reed Scores Game-High 17 Points in 91-66 Loss at UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. – Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas) scored a game-high 17 points for the second consecutive game as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was defeated 91-66 by the University of Connecticut in Saturday afternoon's game at the XL Center.
Reed shot 5-for-10 from the floor, including 4 of 8 on 3-pointers, to match his season high of 17 points set the previous game vs. Qunnipiac University. Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) scored 11 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds while Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) netted 10 points and dished out a season-high seven assists.
All five UConn starters, led by Josh Carlton and Jalen Adams with 17 points apiece, scored in double digits. Christian Vital had 14 points and led the team in both rebounds (10) and assists (four).
UNH is now 2-4 overall. UConn improved to 5-1.

FIRST HALF
* UConn scored the first points of the game and never relinquished the lead.
* UNH trailed by just one point, 6-5, heading into the first media timeout following Lester's jumper on the left baseline.
* UConn scored the next four points, but then Lester hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to lift the Wildcats within 10-8 at 14:12.
* The Huskies responded with an 8-0 run to build a double-digit lead, 18-8, at 12:51.
* The margin grew to 13 points, 27-14, at 8:53 before Martinez drained a 3-pointer on the left wing, then came off a screen on the right wing to hit a jumper and drove the left baseline for a layup to trim the deficit to single digits, 29-21, at 6:31.
* UConn made a pair of free throws, then Lester found Jordan cutting down the lane for layup to make the score 31-23 at 6:10.
* The Huskies responded with an 8-1 run the next three minutes to push the lead to 39-24.
* The home team scored the last four points of the half to take a 49-29 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
* With UNH trailing 60-36, Reed made a fastbreak layup and connected on a 3-pointer from the right corner to narrow the gap to 60-41 at 16:02.
* UConn held a 71-48 lead, went into the bonus with 13:21 remaining and extended its advantage to 80-53 from the foul line.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
* UConn has won 10 straight in the series and has a 93-25 lifetime record against New Hampshire.
UNH NOTEBOOK
* This game was homecoming for Hartford-area Wildcats Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.). Carbone tallied three points, three rebounds and a block in 10 minutes. Guadarrama finished with five points, three rebounds, one block and a steal in 16 minutes.
* Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.) played a career-high 30 minutes, including 19 in the first half. He matched his season high of six rebounds; Lester's other stats included nine points, two assists and a block.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
* UConn shot 55.9 percent from the floor in the first half and 52.3 percent for the game. In comparison, UNH made 25 of 67 field goal attempts (37.3%).
* UConn recorded a 50-33 rebounding advantage, including 13-10 on the offensive glass.
