New Hampshire Falls to Vermont, 2-0 at Home

The Catamounts took the momentum in the second half off a free-kick goal.
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team faced off with the University of Vermont Catamounts on Thursday evening.
Despite outshooting the Catamounts early, and controlling the ball well through the first half, the Wildcats were bested by Vermont by a score of 2-0.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday, October 14 traveling to Albany to face the Great Danes at 2 P.M.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the sixth minute of the match, Ally Reynolds (Weymouth, Mass.) crossed through the box sending a pass to Maggie Grigely (Simsbury, Conn.) who shot the ball hard, but a diving save from UVM keeper Kacey Lambertson prevented it from entering the net.
- UVM's Alyssa Oviedo had a chance when she took a shot from 18 yards out. Mia Neas (Old Saybrook, Conn.) made a diving save that redirected off her fingertips sending the ball just left of the post.
- The Wildcats and Catamounts had a possession battle through most of the first half; UNH had seven shots to UVM's six.
- Neas had another save on a hard-hit shot from Oviedo, who cut into the box past the defense, but Neas was positioned perfectly to catch the line drive shot.
- UNH began the second with a couple key scoring opportunities, two of which came from Liz Lane (Porter, Maine), but her two shots were saved and deflected off the post.
- UVM struck first in the 61st minute when Casey Garfinkel sailed a free kick from 35 yards out to the upper right corner of the net.
- At 14:39 remaining in the second, Garfinkel had another scoring chance on a corner kick that she sent into the box; Savana Yurick headed the ball off the corner and was able to add insurace for the Catamounts, 2-0.
- In the 89th minute, Vermont had another chance to put the game out of hand with a fast break but Oviedo once again couldn't get enough movement on the shot and Neas was positioned perfectly for the save.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Mia Neas finished the game with five saves; her record now stands at 6-6-2 on the season.
- UNH outshot UVM 15-13 overall, but UVM led in shots on goal 7-3.
- Both teams were awarded just two corners in the game.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- This is the first game where the Wildcats have allowed more than one goal since September 13 against Dartmouth (2-1 overtime loss.)
- The Wildcats face Albany on Sunday, October 14. Albany, also at 2-2-1 in conference play, is tied for fourth with UNH at 7 conference points.
- UNH's home record now stands at 3-4-0 on the season.
