‘Cats Stumble at Albany, 3-0

The Wildcats fall despite eight saves from Neas.
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team faced off with the Albany Great Danes on Sunday afternoon for a spot in the top four of the conference standings.
The game went back and forth in terms of possession, but Albany was the team that found ways to score, as they defeated the Wildcats on Albany's Senior Day, 3-0.
The Wildcats have one road game and one home game remaining in the regular season, traveling to Binghamton on Thursday evening for a 6 P.M. matchup, and hosting Hartford at home on Sunday, October 21 at 2 P.M. for the 'Cats' Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Megan Rumbold (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had UNH's first scoring opportunity, taking a free kick from about 38 yards out in the 16th minute; her shot curved on net but was saved by Leitner.
- Albany had another chance in the 21st minute on a corner kick, but Mia Neas (Old Saybrook, Conn.) elevated and secured the ball before an attacker could make a play.
- On a free kick just 20 yards out, the Great Danes attempted to go high on Neas, but she read it all the way and leapt straight up to make the save.
- The Great Danes tallied a goal in the 35th minute on a corner kick that curved on net and snuck through the defense, giving the Great Danes a 1-0 lead.
- Rumbold almost answers a minute later on a free kick, but Andrea Leitner made a diving save to quell the opportunity.
- Just under two minutes into the second half, the Great Danes tallied another goal off a corner kick, this time on a header, to lead 2-0 early in the second half.
- Albany added a third goal in the 52nd minute on a long shot that was tucked into the lower left corner of the net.
- The Wildcats refused to back down; a breakaway chance in the 63rd minute with Liz Lane (Porter, Maine) challenging two defenders and Leitner but her shot went just wide.
- Kaylan Williams (Marion, Ind.) got a through-ball that passed through the back line in the 66th. She rocketed a shot inside the box but couldn't get it past Leitner.
- Minutes later Williams had another chance from the left side of the box, making Leitner dive to her right but just coming up with possession of the ball.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Mia Neas finished with eight saves on the afternoon, now the third-highest save total of her season after 10 against Dartmouth and nine against Princeton. Neas made six of her eight saves in the second half.
- Fouls were even with each team being called for nine.
- Albany was whistled for offsides three times in the game.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- This is just the Wildcats' second road loss of the season; their record in road games falls to 3-2-2.
- UNH remains at seven conference points, in sixth place. The Wildcats face seventh-place Binghamton (6 points) on Thursday.
- The Wildcats defeated the Great Danes in last season's senior day at Bremner Field by the same score, 3-0.
