Gymnastics Totals Season High 196.450 as Goodspeed Records 600th UNH Win Versus Temple

DURHAM, N.H. - Co-Captain Meghan Pflieger (Barneveld, N.Y.) was the individual balance beam champion with a score of 9.875, and set a new career high in the all-around competition (39.400), as the University of New Hampshire Gymnastics improved to 11-3 with a 196.450-194.350 victory over Temple University.
The Wildcats' team energy was present from the start, and maintained throughout the meet until the final performance was complete. Led by the senior class of Pflieger, Jennifer King (Freehold, N.J.), and Jessica Gracia (Bahama, N.C.), UNH redeemed itself from a disappointing loss Friday night to achieve its best total score of the year. The victory was Head Coach Gail Goodspeed's 600th at New Hampshire.

The Wildcats are right back at Lundholm Gym for a dual-meet against Air Force this Friday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. It will be Fitness/Heart Health Day. The meet will include a number of fun-filled, fitness-focused competitions for prizes. And, as always, the UNH gymnasts will sign autographs immediately following the meet. HIGHLIGHTS
- Danielle Mulligan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) placed first on the uneven bars for the sixth straight meet, as she matched her season high score of 9.900. The sophomore also finished in third place on the beam with a 9.825.
- Danielle Doolin (Medford Lakes, N.J.) tied her personal best of 9.900 on the floor exercise to win the individual competition.
- Pflieger and Doolin each recorded new career high scores in the all-around competition, as they totaled a 39.400 and a 39.125 to take first and second places, respectively.
New Hampshire began the afternoon on the vault, where four gymnasts achieved top scores of 9.825 to lead the team. Nicole O'Leary (Newtown, Conn.), Marissa Toci (Mount Laurel, N.J.), Pflieger, and Elizabeth Mahoney (Hanson, Mass.) each earned a share of second place for the 'Cats, as they outscored the Owls in the event, 49.050 to 48.675. Toci set a new career high score with her performance, and O'Leary matched her previous personal best.
The Wildcats then moved to the bars, where Mulligan won the individual competition for the sixth straight meet. The sophomore scored a season high-tying 9.900, just as she did on Friday night at North Carolina. Seniors Pflieger and Gracia also performed strongly for UNH, as they each totaled a 9.825 and tied for second place. The score matched a personal best for Gracia. As a team, the 'Cats tied their season-high score on the beam, as they edged Temple, 49.100 to 48.550.
On the beam, Pflieger matched her season high of 9.875 to lead the team and earn first place. Mulligan also performed very well, recording a 9.825 and placing third, just 0.025 shy of her personal best. Casey Lauter (Northport, N.Y.) had a strong performance as well, scoring a 9.800 and finishing in fourth place. New Hampshire totaled a 49.050 as a team, defeating the Owls, who scored a 48.575.
In the final event of the night, Doolin tied her career high of 9.900 on the floor to win the individual competition. Lia Breeden (York, Pa.) and Pflieger were also top performers for the Wildcats, each recording a 9.875 to share second place. Lexi Calandra (Suffern, N.Y.) set a personal best of 9.825 to earn fourth place. As a team, UNH totaled its highest floor score of the season to edge Temple, 49.250 to 48.550.
TEAM NOTES
- The Wildcats have now defeated 25 straight opponents at Lundholm Gym in a streak that dates back to March 8, 2014. UNH is 4-0 this season at home with wins against Pittsburgh, Southern Connecticut State, Utah State, and Temple.
- New Hampshire achieved its highest total team score of the season (196.450), after also recording team season highs on the bars (49.100) and floor (49.250).
- The 'Cats totaled 15 scores of 9.800 or better across all four events. They earned individual victories on the bars (Mulligan), beam (Pflieger), and floor (Doolin).
