The Wildcats improve to 6-3-3 in conference play with their first shutout of the season.

STORRS, Conn. – Junior goaltender Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) made 27 saves and allowed no goals as the University of New Hampshire took down the Connecticut Huskies by a final score of 3-0 on Friday evening.

It was the first shutout for the Wildcats this season; the last time the Wildcats allowed no goals was on January 21 against Maine. It was Smith's second career shutout, her first coming in her freshman season, also against Maine in January.

Senior Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.), junior Marie-Jo Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brunswick) and sophomore Taylor Wenczkowski (Rochester, N.H.) all tallied goals in the victory. Sophomore Meghara McManus (Milton, Mass.) tallied an assist that kept her point streak alive at four games, the longest active streak for the 'Cats.

Smith has now started two games in net for the Wildcats and has a 2-0-0 record on the season.

GAME RECAP

The first period saw total 18 shots with UNH owning the advantage 11-7. Neither team committed a penalty in the first.
Schlagel's goal came on the remnants of a 5-on-3 power play, with the first penalty expiring while Schlagel prepared a shot from the left side and buried it to give UNH a 1-0 lead.
Up 1-0 in the third, Pelletier got a pass from Nicole Dunbar (Coto De Caza, Calif.) down the middle and took a shot from just between the faceoff circles and put one top shelf to give the 'Cats come insurance with 3:59 remaining.
The Huskies pulled their goalie with 2:46 left and with a defensive-zone turnover, the puck bounced to Wenczkowski who took a long empty-net shot that went in to give the Wildcats their final goal.
