Field Hockey's Furious Comeback Falls Short, 3-2, vs. Drexel

DURHAM, N.H. – Ashley Mendonca (Brampton, Ontario) and Lindsey Nerbonne (Bow, N.H.) both scored for the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, but Drexel University fended off the Wildcats' furious second-half comeback to prevail 3-2 Friday afternoon at Memorial Field.

RECAP
- Megan Wiest recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Dragons' offense. She struck first at 5:00, broke a 1-1 tie 32 seconds into the second half and set up the next goal (by Tess Moran) less than three minutes later to give Drexel a 3-1 lead at 38:24.
- Nerbonne corralled a pass from Rachel Bossi (Chelmsford, Mass.), turned a fired a shot into the cage to trim the deficit to one goal just 61 seconds later at 39:25.
- UNH dominated play the rest of the way and the Wildcats outshot Drexel 12-1, including 6-0 in shots on goal, the last 30 minutes but could score the equalizer.
- DU goalkeeper Erin Gilchrist recorded six of her 10 saves in the second half.
- New Hampshire was awarded a penalty corner with two minutes remaining. A sequence of three passes set up Mendonca in the middle of the circle but her low drive was stopped by Gilchrist, who also denied Taylor Scafidi (Waltham, Mass.) off the rebound on the right side.
- UNH goalie Kesley Rudert (North Grafton, Mass.) was credited with five saves, all in the first half.
