DURHAM, N.H. – Head coach Bill Herrion of the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team has announced the promotion of assistant coach Chris Mohr to associate head coach on Friday.
Mohr enters his 12th season as a coach for the Wildcats, all under Herrion. Mohr handles recruiting, scouting and focuses on the forwards during practice. His dedication to the program was influential in the 39 wins the past two seasons, a first for the program, including 20 wins just last year for a program-best mark.
"We felt it was the right time to reward Chris Mohr for his loyalty to this program," said Herrion. "He has been with me since day one, going on 12 years, and he has had a great impact on our team from a basketball standpoint. I think it's an appropriate promotion for Chris."
Mohr coached junior forward Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) to a First Team All-Conference ballot in the 2015-16 season and America East Rookie of the Year in the 2014-15 campaign. The Wildcats also saw growth of junior forward Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) last season as he averaged 7.5 points and 8.6 rebounds, an increase from 3.1 points and 4.0 rebounds his rookie year.
Before UNH, Mohr worked six seasons as an assistant coach at Merrimack College with longtime head coach Bert Hammel.
The Wildcats return four of the five majority starters from a year ago and added five freshmen, three guards and two forwards, to increase depth and skill next season.
