Pogue's 15, Belanger's 13 Lead Women's Hoops In Loss To UMBC

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 15 points and senior guard Elizabeth Belanger (Acton, Mass.) had 13 to lead the UNH women's basketball team Saturday afternoon in a 65-55 loss to UMBC at Lundholm Gymnasium.
UNH fell to 7-14 overall for the season and is now 1-7 in America East. UMBC improved to 13-8 and 4-4.
The Wildcats are off until next Saturday when they play Binghamton at 1 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium for their You Can Play Night game. It's also Alumni Day for the Wildcats. For tickets, visit www.unhwildcats.com or call 603-862-4000.
Pogue added five rebounds to go with her 15 points and Belanger led the Wildcats with nine rebounds.
Freshman forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) contributed six points, led UNH with a season-high four assists and also blocked a season-high three shots. Junior guard Kristen Anderson (Greene, Maine) had seven points and three assists and senior forward Stephanie Spoto (Pittsford, N.Y.) added six points and seven rebounds.
UMBC guard Taylor McCarley made eight of her 10 field goals and nine of 11 foul shots to lead all scorers with 27 points. Forward Pandora Wilson had 20 points for the visitors.
The Retrievers outscored UNH 16-7 in the third quarter to break open a close game and take a 42-32 lead into the fourth period. They maintained the lead through the final quarter.
The Retrievers owned a 26-24 edge at halftime. Belanger had 10 of her points and five rebounds in the first half.
The Wildcats (19-for-56) matched the Retrievers (19-for-49) in field goals and were 6-for-18 from behind the three-point line to UMBC's four-for-13.
UMBC had a decided edge in free throws. The Retrievers were 23-for-29 from the foul line and UNH was 11-for-15.
