Women’s Soccer Falls to Temple, 4-0

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Temple University, Friday night at Bremner Field.
The Wildcats' overall record fell to 2-2-3 in the non-conference tilt. The Owls improved to 5-1 on the season.
Senior Gabrielle Sloan (Stow, Mass.) led New Hampshire with two shots on goal. Junior Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) totaled three saves on the night as her record dropped to 2-2-3 overall.
The Wildcats held a 2-1 corner kick advantage with five shots on goal.
Senior Kelly Farrell and freshman Sarah McGlinn each notched two goals on three shots for Temple. Senior Erin Lafferty recorded an assist on the second goal of the game. Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Nash made five saves to up her overall record to 1-1.
The 'Cats had a scoring opportunity in the 19th minute when freshman Gaby Dorsey (Hubertus, Wis.) fought for a header, and gave sophomore Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) a breakaway chance. However, Temple's Nash made a diving save before a shot could be taken.
Borkan made a similar play on the other end of the field in the 40th minute to stop a junior Taylor Matsinger attempt for Temple.
At the half, the score was deadlocked at 0-0.
The Owls recorded goal number one on the night in the 59th minute when Farrell ripped a volley from inside the box that went bar down into the net for a 1-0 lead.
Farrell tallied her second goal in the match, her seventh of the season, in the 65th minute on a header from 10-yards out. Lafferty set up the goal on a well-placed free kick chance from 30 yards out.
Temple would total two more goals from McGlinn in the 76th and 78th minute to extend the lead to 4-0, and hold off UNH to preserve the 4-0 decision.
New Hampshire returns to action Sunday, Sept. 13 (2 p.m.) when it hosts Lafayette College at Bremner Field.
