Men’s Soccer Takes Down Marist, 3-1

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season as the Wildcats defeated Marist College, 3-1, Sunday evening at Teney Stadium. Seniors Connor Pauley (Londonderry, N.H.) and Ben Ramin (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) as well as junior Karl Frisk (Molndal, Sweden) each scored for UNH.
Marist struck first in the match as Connor Preece gave the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick. The goal came in the 36th minute of play. Pauley responded for the Wildcats in the 43rd minute as he received a pass from Frisk in the middle of the box. Pauley connected with the pass as he headed the ball into the net.
At the end of the first half, the score was deadlocked at 1-1. Marist held an 8-3 advantage in shots. Senior netminder Ryan Carpenter (Newmarket, N.H.) made one save on two shots in the first stanza.
Ramin opened up the second half for the Wildcats with the second goal and eventual game winner, his first of the season. Junior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) dished a pass to Ramin who in turn found the back of the net for the goal.
Frisk gave the Wildcats a 3-1 cushion in the 70th minute of play as he recorded the first goal of his career. Senior co-captain Andrew Chaput (Manchester, N.H.) tallied an assist on the play as he fed Frisk a pass in the box.
At the end of the match, the Wildcats emerged with a 3-1 victory. UNH outshot the Red Foxes 13-3 in the second half and by a total of 16-11 in the game. Carpenter improved to 2-0 on the year as he made three saves on four shots faced. Marist keeper Mark Rajovic made three saves on six shots faced.
