Men's Soccer Ready to Kick Off 2015 Season

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team is geared up and ready for the 2015 campaign as they open the season with a home tilt against Hartwick College on Friday, Aug. 28 (7 p.m.) and a road game at Marist College on Sunday, Aug. 30 (5 p.m.).
The Wildcats are led by first-year head coach Marc Hubbard, who came to UNH after very successful period at Southern New Hampshire University. In seven seasons with the Penmen, he tallied a record of 117-20-6 and helped the program capture its second NCAA national championship in 2013. He was also named the 2013 NSCAA Division II Coach of the Year. He is joined by Rich Weinrebe, Simeon Steward, and Dave Williams. Weinrebe is in his second season with the Wildcats while Steward is in his first, both as assistant coaches. Williams returns as the goalkeeping for his second stint with UNH.
The returning senior class consists of midfielder A.J. Albers (Eagan, Minn.), goalkeeper Ryan Carpenter (Newmarket, N.H.), co-captain and back Andrew Chaput (Manchester, N.H.), back Lukas Goerigk (Berlin, Germany), midfielder Fazal Nabi (Portland, Maine), back Connor Pauley (Londonderry, N.H.) and forward Ben Ramin (Baldwinsville, N.Y.).
Albers and Nabi each provided an offensive punch for the Wildcats in 2014, registering two goals apiece for four points. Nabi tallied 30 shots on the year. Chaput returns for his second season as co-captain. He started all 17 games and played every minute of every match.
Returning for their junior season are midfielders Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.) and Gunnar Ericsson (Haverhill, Mass.), as well as forward Karl Frisk (Molndal, Sweden), backs Colin McNabb (Downingtown, Pa.) and Will Szostkiewicz (Longmeadow, Mass.), midfielder Duff Thomson (Newton, N.H.) and midfielder co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway).
Wingate played in all 17 games last season and made 13 starts. He registered four points on a pair of goals while firing 23 shots. Thomson started 13 of 15 games he played and recorded a pair of points on a game-winning goal.
Three sophomores return to the pitch for the 'Cats as Avery Heilbron (Vancouver, British Columbia), Eric Morales (Mundelein, Ill.) and Will Rasid (Wilbraham, Mass.) all return for their second season.
A total of 11 newcomers will don blue and white for the first time in 2015, nine freshman and two transfer student-athletes. Pat Fallon (Swarthmore, Pa.) is the lone freshman goalkeeper joining the team while Nick Miller (Lebanon, Pa.) and Adam Norman (Winchester, England) join as backs. Four midfielders, Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.), Jacob Mannix (Longmeadow, Mass.), Sonachi Umeh (Gardena, Calif.) and Alex Valencia (Tracy, Calif.) and two forwards, Kyle Brewster (New Hampton, N.H.) and Ben Noel (Williamsville, N.Y.) round out the freshmen.
Goalkeeper Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) and midfielder Jimmy Petruccelli (Newfields, N.H.) transferred to UNH in the off-season. Pesci spent his first year at Southern New Hampshire University and Petruccelli played at Providence College for the first three years of his career.
