Six different Wildcats scored

DURHAM, N.H. – Six different Wildcats found the back of the net as the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated New Haven, 6-2, on Tuesday night at Wildcat Stadium in non-conference action in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Graduate student Miguel Soto Gonzalez (Villanueva de la Cañada, Spain) led the Wildcats with one goal and two assists for four points, while sophomore Xahvi DeRoza (Warwick, Bermuda) tallied one goal and one assist for three points. Sophomore Mikael Pulkkinen (Helsinki, Finland) opened the scoring and recorded his first collegiate goal. Senior Daniel Firek (Mississauga, Ontario) posted his first goal as a Wildcat. Junior Cabot McLaren (Sugar Hill, N.H.) netted his second goal of the season, while freshman Augie Hoelscher (Jackson, Wyo.) also secured his first collegiate goal. Senior David Davila (Elkhart, Ind.) tallied a multi-point game with two assists.

The Wildcats are now 3-1-1 overall and are 3-0-1 over the last four games. New Haven falls to 1-4-0. The six goals by the Wildcats were the most in at least 19 years.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Choi (Stow, Mass) recorded his first save of the game in the sixth minute when New Haven's Pol Bota Gutierrez took a shot at the net from 18 yards out.
In the ninth minute (8:26), UNH had its first opportunity to score when Pulkkinen fired a shot to the high right side of the net from 18 yards out. Davila and Soto Gonzalez each recorded an assist on the goal.

Firek ripped a shot to the lower right corner of the net to put UNH up 2-0 in the 24th (23:42) minute of the game. Davila and Soto Gonzalez were credited with the assists.

New Haven had its first scoring opportunity when Andres Lazo sent a shot to the high right corner of the net in the 48th (47:37) minute.
In the 66th (65:05) minute, McLaren spun around with the ball and launched a shot to the high right side of the net to bring UNH up 3-1.

New Haven retaliated shortly after when Richard Henry headed a corner kick into the net assisted by Trevor Pegg and Lazo.
In the 71st (70:36) minute, Soto Gonzalez blasted a shot to the low left side of the net from 18 yards out to extend UNH's lead.

A minute later, DeRoza tapped a shot into the low right side of the net off a pass from junior captain Reed Cash (Hampton Falls, N.H.).

In the 89th (88:09) minute, Hoelscher sent a header to the high left corner of the net from six yards out. Senior Ryo Miyata (Yokohama, Japan) was credited with the assist.

The Wildcats held a 13-9 advantage in total shots.
UNH finished with an 8-6 edge in shots on goal.
The Chargers earned eight corner kicks, while UNH recorded six.
Choi made four saves to earn the win, while Garrett Smith also posted one save for New Haven.
