DURHAM, N.H. –- The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team captured their second win of the season and first at home with a 1-0 win over Bryant University Thursday evening from Bremner Field under foggy conditions as freshman Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) netted a second half goal.
The Wildcats improve to 2-4-0 on the season while the Bulldogs slip to 2-5 on the year.
Senior Caroline Murray (New Canaan, Conn.) and junior Kirsten O'Neil (Hampton, N.H.) paved the way for the Wildcats offense with three shots each in the game.
The 'Cats outshot the Bulldogs (12-17). Sophomore netminder Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) made four saves in 90 minutes of action earning her second clean sheet of the year.
New Hampshire had a chance to score 15 minutes into the game. Murray and junior Gabrielle Sloan (Stow, Mass.) put a great give-and-go together 18 yards out but the goalkeeper, Kaylan Conrad, was able to make the stop as Sloan blasted the strike on target.
The lone score of the match came off of the foot of Murphy who gave the 'Cats the 1-0 advantage in the 47th minute off of a deflection and the assist came from Murray and Sloan (first of the season for both players). Murphy has notched all of UNH's goals thus far this season and increases her goal total to three.
The Wildcats continue their home stand hosting Siena College on Sunday, Sept.14 (2 p.m.) at Bremner Field.
