Women's Soccer and Maine Battle to a Double Overtime Draw in AE Action

ORONO, Maine – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team tied the University of Maine in double overtime 0-0 Sunday afternoon in America East play from Alumni Field.
With the draw, the Wildcats stand at 4-7-0 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference the first overtime tie of the season for New Hampshire. The Black Bears are now 3-6-3 on the season and 1-0-2 in conference play.
UNH Sophomore goalkeeper Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) made six saves in the game while Maine netminder Cladui Dube-Trempe earned 13 saves the game.
New Hamsphire Freshman Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) led the attack tallying seven shots with five on target. Senior Caroline Murray (New Canaan, Conn.) was not far behind with five shots on the day.
UNH opened the game with a corner kick at the 40th minute and on the next position junior Kirsten O'Neil (Hampton, N.H.) mustered the first shot of the game a header as Dube-Trempe came up with the save.
At halftime, New Hampshire posted seven shots while Maine earned one.
Murphy had a chance to get the 'Cats on the board first, however her shot was saved by Trempe in the 61st minute.
In the 85th minute Murray blasted a shot as Dube-Trempe came up with save to put the game into the first overtime. UNH had several opportunities to come through with a goal but were unable to capitalize.
Sophomore Morgan Smith (Canton, Conn.) posted the first shot in the first overtime for the Wildcats. Maine earned three shots while New Hampshire had two in the first OT. Borkan came up with two big saves in net for the 'Cats while Dube-Trempe made just one.
In the second overtime, the Wildcats' Murphy broke in all alone with just 1:29 left in the second overtime. Dube-Trempe came out to defense Murphy and made a diving stop. The ball dribbled back to Murphy who sent a soft shot at the Maine net that was intercepted by a Black Bears' defender. Both teams posted two shots and each netminder recorded two saves as well.
UNH out shot Maine 19-10 in the game and the'Cats garnered eight corner kicks while the Black Bears earned three in the process.
The Wildcats are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 9 going up against conference team University of Maryland Baltimore County (7 p.m.) at Cowell Stadium.
