BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Correa (Cheshire, Conn.) registered a game-high six saves, but an early goal was just enough for American University to sneak past the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team, 1-0, Friday evening in a neutral site contest at Centennial Field.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 0-2 on the young season, while the Eagles improve to 2-1 with the win.
American scored the lone goal of the contest in the 24th minute of the contest when Erin Mulhern found the back of the net on a helper from Lindsay Muri.
Both squads registered eight shots apiece in the contest, however, the Wildcats outshot the Eagles 6-4 in the second frame. Senior Alyssa Michel (Bellingham, Wash.), junior Chelsea Kuss (Warners, N.Y.), and freshmen Jenna Shaddock (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Meghan Ledwith (Yardley, Pa.) all tallied shots on goal in the contest.
American goalkeeper Klare Lazor collected three saves in the shutout victory.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday, Aug. 28 (3 p.m.) when they take on Charleston Southern University at Lewis Fields.
