ALPINE SQUAD TAKES 3RD PLACE IN BOTH GIANT SLALOM AT DARTMOUTH CARNIVAL; SKI TEAM FINISHES IN 4TH PLACE

HANOVER, N.H. and STOWE,
Vt. – Aileen Farrell (Ottawa,
Ontario) and Willie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.) recorded
top-five finishes in the giant slalom on Saturday and the
University of New Hampshire ski team completed the two-day
Dartmouth Carnival in fourth place.
UNH compiled 680 total points – the men's and
women's alpine squads both recorded the third-highest team
score in the giant slalom -- to place behind Dartmouth College (929
points), University of Vermont (877.5) and Middlebury College (743)
in the 13-team event.
Farrell was the top Wildcat finisher on Saturday with a third-place
effort in the women's giant slalom at Dartmouth Skiway. She
raced to a time of 58.12 seconds in the first run and climbed into
third place by recording the fastest time (53.73) in the second run
for an overall mark of 1:51.85.
Veronique Archambault-Leger (Verdun, Quebec) edged
teammate Catherine Blanchard (Eastman, Quebec) for
12th place. Archambault-Leger completed her individual runs in
58.33 and 54.48 for an aggregate time of 1:52.81. Blanchard
finished in 14th place with a mark of 1:53.06 that was comprised of
runs of 58.77 and 54.29.
Ford was timed in 55.52 in his first run and 52.67 in the second
for an overall time of 1:48.19. Michael Cremeno
(Pembroke, N.H) and Taylor Burton (Breckenridge,
Colo.) finished in 10th and 11th place, respectively. Cremeno was
clocked in 55.94 and 52.70 for a mark of 1:48.64 while
Burton's two-run time of 1:48.67 was a combination of 56.08
and 52.59.
Three other Wildcats earned NCAA qualifier points. Paul
Atkinson (Toronto, Ontario) took 13th place in 1:48.86 and
was followed by Zach Clayton (Manassa, Va.) in
19th place at 1:49.73 and Viktor Hlas (Winnipeg,
Manitoba) in 22nd place at 1:50.29.
The UNH women's Nordic squad finished sixth in the 3x5K
freestyle relay that was held at Trapp Family Lodge.
Natasha Kullas (Timmins, Ontario) completed her
leg in 15:37.8 while Liz Guiney (Park City, Utah)
was timed in 15:42.1 and Anya Caldwell Bean
(Wolfeboro, N.H.) in 16:15.0 for an overall mark of 47:34.9.
The Wildcats placed eighth in the men's 3x5K free relay with
a time of 40:51.7. Dylan McGuffin (Northfield,
N.H.) skated the fastest leg in 13:08.2, followed by
Michael Lessard (Greene, Maine) in 13:37.4 and
Harrison Harb (Contoocook, N.H.) in 14:06,1.
New Hampshire returns to action Feb. 19-20 at the Williams
Carnival. The alpine races will be held at Jiminy Peak and Prospect
will be the site of the Nordic competition.
