Sunny Marchand is in her second season as assistant coach in 2018-19.
In 2019, Marchand was named NCAA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year along with third-year associate head coach Lindsey Bruck Ayotte and volunteer assistant coach Ed Datti.
The 2019 Wildcats earned the third EAGL Championship in program history, capturing the title in front of their home fans at the Whittemore Center. Senior Danielle Mulligan tied the league's all-time championship score on uneven bars (9.950) to win the event for the third straight year at EAGLs. UNH went a perfect 14-0 at home and 23-4 overall in reaching the NCAA Regionals the University of Georgia. Mulligan (all-around) and classmate Nicole O'Leary (vault) each competed in the second round of Regionals as individuals.
In her role, Sunny assists with program operations, recruiting and overseeing the community gymnastics class program. She organizes team meals on road trips, is involved in meet setup and performs technical functions during meets.
Marchand served as a graduate assistant at Ball State University in the Student Athlete Academic Support office, as well as with the Strength and Conditioning department for the 2016-2017 school year. Her responsibilities included designing and implementing strength programs for women’s cross country and men’s swimming. She also assisted in the weight room with the gymnastics and women’s volleyball teams.
Prior to Ball State, Marchand spent the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons as an assistant coach at Bowling Green State University where she served as the primary vault and floor coach and the team’s academic and community service coordinator. In 2014 she helped lead the Falcons to their best conference finish in 22 seasons. During the 2014 season, her vault team broke the previous school record recording a 49.125. In addition, Marchand coached Jamilah Ali and Amanda Lievendag to the 2014 and 2015 Mid-American Conference vault titles.
Marchand was a 2013 graduate from BGSU where she was four-year member of the gymnastics team (2009-2013). She was co-captain for the 2013 season and an NACGC/W Academic All-American.
A native of Pelham, N.H., Marchand qualified for the 2006 and 2009 Junior Olympic National Championships. As an Elite, she qualified for the 2006 U.S. Classic meet.
She earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Performance from Ball State University.
