Gianna Bensaia, a junior midfielder from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., recorded a goal and an assist to lead the UNH field hockey team to America East conference victories against Vermont and UMass Lowell.
She extended her assist streak to four games Friday, then her point streak to five games with Sunday’s goal. The assist was Bensaia’s 13th of the season, which is tied for No 5 on UNH’s list of single-season superlatives.
Gianna helped spark the Wildcats’ second-half surge against UVM by setting up the game-winning goal that gave UNH a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute; it was the second of three consecutive goals in a span of less than eight minutes. In addition to the assist, she recorded a game-high five shots (two on goal).
In the 2-1 win against UMass Lowell, Gianna scored her first goal of the season to give UNH a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. She finished with a game-high four shots (two on goal).
