Max Pedinoff, a junior from Newtown, Pa., recorded a career-long 55 punt and personal-best average of 47.7 yards per punt as an integral part of the UNH football team’s 21-12 victory against No. 19/17 William & Mary in the Oct. 1 Homecoming game at rainy Wildcat Stadium. Two of his punts pinned the Tribe inside their 20-yard line.
With UNH trailing 6-0 in the first quarter, the Wildcats faced fourth down on their 27 but Max flipped the field by booming a 55-yard punt that sailed out of bounds at the William & Mary 18.
The next time he took the field, Max lofted a 44-yard punt high in the air that forced a fair catch at the Tribe 5.
William & Mary called time out with 5:07 remaining in the fourth quarter trailing by a score of 21-12 and UNH facing 4th-and-3 at its 22. Max gathered the snap and punted the ball away, then a pair of W&M onrushing players ran into him and were penalized for roughing the kicker. That play gave UNH an automatic first down and the Wildcats maintained possession the rest of the game to secure the victory.
In five games this season, Max has punted a total of 28 times with an average of 39.6 yards and 13 punts inside the 20. In the season opener at San Diego State University, his 11 punts averaged 38.4 yards with five inside the 20.
