Grier leads way with 16 kills, five blocks at Rutgers Invitational
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Junior Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) delivered a dominant performance with 16 kills and five blocks to lead the UNH volleyball team to Friday afternoon's 3-1 victory over Saint Francis at Jersey Mike's Arena in the Rutgers Invitational. The victory marked the 100th at UNH for head coach Christopher Feliciano.
The Wildcats (5-2) dropped a tightly contested first set, 28-26, but bounced back to take the next three sets 25-18, 25-23, and 25-20 in a neutral-site matchup.

Set 1: Saint Francis 28, New Hampshire 26
•UNH battled through 13 ties and six lead changes in the opening frame. Grier and freshman Lucy Chertock (Danville, Calif.) each tallied multiple kills, while junior Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) added a service ace.
•Despite a late push, Saint Francis closed the set with a kill from Paloma Gonzalez Jaramillo and an ace from Alexa Chapla.
Set 2: New Hampshire 25, Saint Francis 18
•The Wildcats responded with a strong second set, hitting .321 as a team.
•Grier continued her offensive surge with several kills, while senior Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.) contributed back-to-back kills during a key run.
•Shattles added another ace and Grove capped the set with a kill off a feed from freshman Jannelize Perez (Orlando, Fla.).
Set 3: New Hampshire 25, Saint Francis 23
•In a back-and-forth third set featuring 10 ties, Chertock served up consecutive aces to give UNH a late lead.
•Grier and Shattles combined for clutch kills down the stretch, and Chertock sealed the set with a kill assisted by Shattles.
Set 4: New Hampshire 25, Saint Francis 20
•UNH closed out the match with a balanced attack. Chertock served two more aces and Grove added three kills, including the match-winner.
•Senior Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas) chipped in with three blocks, and senior Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) added a service ace and 12 digs.
Top Performers
• Shattles finished with 28 assists and 10 digs, while Chertock contributed nine kills and five aces. •The Wildcats out-blocked Saint Francis 9-4 and held their opponent to a .163 hitting percentage.
•Grier led all players with 18.5 points, hitting an impressive .615 with zero errors on 26 swings.
•Grove contributed seven kills and a block, and LePore paced the back row with a team-high 12 digs.
•Kriendler and freshman Varvara Zvereva (Korolev, Russia) combined for six block assists to help UNH control the net.
•Feliciano's UNH record improved to 100-54 in his seventh season at the helm.
The UNH volleyball team continues the Rutgers Invitational against the host Scarlet Knights on Friday night at 6 p.m. (Big Ten Plus) at Jersey Mike's Arena.

•Coach Feliciano makes his return to Rider on Saturday, Sept. 13 (1 p.m.) to conclude the Rutgers Invitational. Feliciano served eight seasons (2011-18) as Rider's head coach before being named UNH head coach on March 12, 2019. Feliciano is the winningest coach in Rider history with 117 victories. The Broncs won 10-plus conference matches each of his last five years at the school, and they tallied at least 15 wins six consecutive seasons.
